Roundtable Discussions

Submit Your Roundtable Discussion proposal today!

We’ll start the second day of the convening—July 14 from 9:30 - 11:00 AM—with a series of concurrent Roundtable Discussions. We invite you to submit a proposal to lead a discussion of your own around a set of questions you want to explore with fellow attendees: designers, artists, and technologists committed to collectively constructing an anti-racist field. To participate, submit your proposal by EOD June 22, 2018.

What is a Roundtable Discussion?

These will be informal, concurrent, 90-minute gatherings of small groups of people—up to 12 participants—with shared experiences or interests in a defined topic or set of questions. This format is best-suited for content that requires some kind of exchange, solicits specific feedback, or benefits from multiple perspectives. Discussions may focus on:

  • Are you looking for feedback on a new idea or project?
  • Do you want to connect with others who can relate to a specific shared experience?
  • Would you like to explore how your peers might approach a challenge you’ve been working through on your own?
  • And more!

What are we looking for?

Each Roundtable Discussion should revolve around a clear, specific focus area, but be flexible enough to allow for discussion and variation depending on who decides to participate. The goal is to cultivate an environment where participants feel comfortable expressing themselves and productively challenging one another. We’re looking for strong facilitators who feel confident guiding a conversation, are willing to prepare a discussion guide, and are prepared to tease out themes and patterns from the conversation in order to keep the discussion moving in a purposeful way.
